The cultural property "Traditional Bagpipe Making and Playing" is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The multinational nomination, submitted by Macedonia and Turkey, was reviewed and adopted at yesterday's session of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Asuncion, Republic of Paraguay.
This is an important moment in Macedonian culture because after 7 years, our country has inscribed another intangible cultural asset on the UNESCO lists, bringing the total number of inscribed protected assets from our country to 6, of which 2 are already joint with the Republic of Turkey.
The nomination was prepared with mutual coordination between the Macedonian team, consisting of representatives from the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the "Marko Cepenkov" Folklore Institute from Skopje, and the expert team of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.
Inscribing properties on UNESCO's lists is an obligation for countries, but also an opportunity to promote national wealth globally and preserve it for future generations.
