The Tanec Ensemble was founded in March 1949 in Skopje and represents one of the most important pillars of Macedonian culture and tradition. It was formed with the aim of collecting and nurturing Macedonian traditional songs and dances, folk instruments and costumes, and through appropriate artistic expression to present the most valuable forms from the rich treasury of the Macedonian people. Thanks to all the generations that built and implemented the clearly defined program activity of the founders, the ensemble developed and over the years grew into one of the most reputable and representative institutions in the field of culture in the region and in the world. During these 75 years, the Tanec Ensemble has performed on the most prestigious stages around the globe, with more than 5,000 unforgettable concerts. Its repertoire includes over 90 choreographies and several hundred vocal and instrumental works, through which the ensemble presents various musical and choreographic traditions from all regions in which the rich Macedonian folklore existed.
