"Children of Kornat Garden" is the first studio album by Jovce Pandev and his band, which brings musical and conceptual maturity. With eight compositions, created over the course of a year, the album confronts injustices through powerful arrangements and emotional charge.
In an interview with Fashionel, Jovche Pandev reveals how the idea for the album took shape, what challenges the recording brought, and what to expect from the concert promotions in Skopje, Strumica, Kavadarci, and Bitola.
How did the idea for the album "Children in the Garden" come about and what did you want to convey through it?
-The idea is not born in one moment or overnight for sure. It constantly grows and takes shape in each subsequent moment of the maturation of an expression and motive to say things, through music. The real idea takes shape when you are aware of the motive and know which form you will use.
The theme of the entire album is the misunderstandings that happen to us, and that tire us out unnecessarily.
The album has a strong aesthetic and creative message against injustice, how is this reflected in the music, lyrics and arrangements in your album?
-It is reflected concisely and considering that this is the first album, we tried to research it as much as possible and reflect it truthfully, for music, lyrics and arrangement.
Filming and production took less than a year, what was that process like and what were the biggest challenges?
-The recording even seemed confusing at times. But also with a clean and clear thought. Indecisive in the final clicks of the mix and the arrangement solutions at the beginning. Colorful, but very happy at the end. The biggest challenge is to have an album that has mature content.
Concert promotions are currently being organized, what can we expect from those performances and what kind of experience will you offer the audience?
-Well, we want a strong and specific sound. We will offer a nice and honest rock and roll experience. We will socialize above all.
The album is available on digital platforms, but there will also be physical releases, what does releasing on CD and vinyl mean to you nowadays?
-Any material that is put on a sound carrier is a long-lasting testimony to it. Maybe this conversation will make no sense after a while, but that's how we grew up, with cassettes, CDs, vinyls, and that's somehow the most realistic in our collective consciousness.
And, in terms of someone buying a CD or vinyl with your work on it, that's probably creating a special noble relationship.
