In the spirit of the support that the Skopje Drama Theater has had in the past by staging theatrical performances of dramatic texts by young authors, starting this year it is establishing the "Goran Stefanovski" award for the best dramatic text by a young Macedonian author under the age of 30.
The award for the best dramatic text by a Macedonian author under the age of thirty will be named "Goran Stefanovski" and will be selected through a competition that describes the form and content of the application, as well as the manner of conducting the selection procedure.
"The competition will be publicly announced every year through the media and on the website of the National Drama Theatre Skopje. The deadline for submitting applications and other required documentation is 15 days from the date of the announcement of the Competition. A 5-member Commission is responsible for conducting the selection for the best drama text by a Macedonian author under the age of 30, and the author of the awarded drama text will be announced at a press conference on the eve of April 27, the day Goran Stefanovski was born. Authors who are Macedonian citizens and are under the age of 30 (thirty), as of the closing date for applications, have the right to participate in the Competition for the selection of the best drama text by a Macedonian young author under the age of thirty." - informs the Drama Theatre Skopje.
The competition aims to affirm contemporary Macedonian drama, to encourage Macedonian dramatic creation and to maintain the continuity of Macedonian dramatic writing. The submitted dramatic text should be unperformed and be an original work of authorship, and not a dramatization or adaptation of novels, short stories or motifs of existing dramatic works.
The winner of the award will sign an Author's Agreement with the National Theatre of Drama Skopje, according to which the theatre undertakes to incorporate the awarded drama text into the theatre's proposed programme and to produce it with a performance on the small stage or on the "Risto Stefanovski" stage in the theatre within two years from the date of the end of the Competition. The winner will receive a one-time cash prize of 60,000.00 denars, and the Author undertakes not to alienate the text, or rather the copyright, to other legal entities and individuals until the premiere at the National Theatre of Drama Skopje.
Director Robert Veljanovski emphasized the joy and unanimous support of the ensemble that it was Drama Theater that established the "Goran Stefanovski" award, because Goran also considered Drama Theater "his theater." From 1974, when the premiere of "Jane Zadrogaz" was staged, directed by Slobodan Unkovski, to the premiere of "Tongues of Fire", also directed by Slobodan Unkovski, in 2013, an impressive number of 15 premieres have been staged on the Drama Theater stage, and eight of them are premiere performances.
