The Vevcani Carnival begins

Masked, the people of Vevcani will depict the events of the past year with satire and humor, preserving an almost 15-century tradition. The carnival, which is believed to drive away evil and bring purification with its masks, welcomes the New Year according to the Julian calendar with a message of changing the negative events in society.

The parade begins around noon, from the beginning of the village, moving through the main street to the center, where the masked will dance the traditional Vasiličar dance. The celebration continues in the evening with fireworks and performances by "Ljubojna", Naum Petreski, the "Vevčani" orchestra, as well as Pero Beli and Koki Bioritam.

On January 14, the event ends with the symbolic burning of the masks in the center of Vevcani, marking the end of old worries and the beginning of new hopes.

Last year, after 20 years, the Vevcani Carnival once again became part of the Federation of European Carnival Cities, promoting the carnival, Vevcani and Macedonia on the European stage.
