That a student fashion show does not always have to be just a "show and tell" event, but rather a shared educational experience that showcases talent for design and event production, was demonstrated by the traditional annual fashion show of the International Fashion Institute "Izet Tsuri", which took place on June 26 in the setting of the "Millennium" cinema.
The appropriately chosen space for the show was in line with this year's theme, which was "Fashion and Film" (French: "La Mode au Cinéma") and focused on the close, inseparable interaction between film and fashion.
It was an extraordinary, unusual and special presentation of the line between a fashion show and a kind of performance. A fashion spectacle that goes beyond the framework of a standard student fashion show, the kind we remember from the golden times of fashion in Macedonia.
The students were tasked with referencing, from idea to complete execution, one look from a particular film of their choice with their designs. The different choices resulted in a variety of solutions, some of which moved within the framework of costume design, while others opted for their own imaginative translation with a more or less visible reference to the film.
From "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Cleopatra", through "Matrix", "Lord of the Rings", "Titanic" and "Harry Potter", to the recent "Black Panther" and "Damsel", from cartoons and animated films to action and science fiction, with reminders of iconic film scenes projected on the screen, without a doubt almost everyone present was touched by the emotion that a favorite film inevitably arouses.
The guests' experience was also enriched by the performance of our extraordinary Kalina Velkovska, in the role of Satine from "Moulin Rouge" and the fantastic Dana Siljan with a two-minute sword performance in the role of Zorro from "Mask of Zorro".
32 designs were realized, ranging from the first to the fourth year, as well as four by professors Izet Tsuri, Dominik Brunet, Blagoj Micevski, and Nikola Eftimov.
The art of fashion is made up of creativity, innovation, bold and daring vision, craftsmanship, attention to detail. This is what defines fashion and what every fashion design student should master. This is exactly what the students delivered with their works to the curious and numerous audience of the spectacle "Fashion and Film" who enjoyed the special experience.
The end of the school year was rounded off with the exhibition of the same designs placed in the gallery space of the Cinematheque of Macedonia, which lasted from June 27 to 29 in cooperation with the University of Film Arts "Europa Prima" and the Cinematheque of Macedonia.
